At the end of each module learners are presented with an activity that that they can implement in their practice setting.  These activities help participants consolidate learning and engage in deeper reflection related to the realities of practice.

1.  Interprofessional Communication

• Complete the communication styles self-assessment with your team
• Develop a collaboration agreement (a.k.a. ground rules) for your team that will accommodate all the communication styles represented on your team
  • How to create a collaboration agreement
• Work as a team to create something that will promote effective interprofessional communication (e.g. Create laminated card with your collaboration agreement on it)

2.  Patient-Centred Care

• Watch the patient goal video presented in the module as a group
• Have each team member write down the main goal for this patient
• Discuss the following questions:
  • How are the goals you identified different?
  • What are the benefits to having different perspectives?
• Share the Interprofessional Shared Decision-Making (IP-SDM) model with your group
  • Discuss how you can use this in your practice setting to establish common patient-centre goals, with your patients and their families as part of the team.
  • Think about how you will involve patients and families in your IP-SDM model?

3.  Role Clarification

• Present different cases to your team and discuss
  • Who would be involved in the care of this patient?
  • What role would you play in their care?
  • What professions are missing?
  • Where is there overlap?
• Implement one of the strategies discussed in the module for ensuring role understanding on your team

4.  Team Functioning

• Complete the National Interprofessional Competency Framework Self-Assessment
• Discuss how your team is currently functioning in terms of its collaborative competencies
• Use the National Framework tool to reflect on where your team could improve
  • Ideally, what would you like your team to look like?
  • How should/could your team be functioning?
  • What challenges might you face in getting there?
  • What can you build on?
  • Create ground rules for collaboration with your team

5.  Interprofessional Conflict Management

• Complete the conflict management styles self-assessment with your team.
• Discuss how each of your unique styles would address a number of scenarios.  Which style is most appropriate in each?

6.  Collaborative Leadership

• Discuss what you can do as a team to move towards a more collaborative leadership model.
• Write a statement articulating your team’s leadership philosophy. Post this where everyone on the team can see it.

The IPC on the Run program is designed to meet the needs of learners in a broad range of contexts. The program includes online and face-to-face learning components, which can be delivered in a variety of ways. This website provides tools and resources to support the delivery of the program; however, the IPC on the Run program is designed to be flexible enough to be modified and adjusted based on the user’s context and learners’ needs.
